Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto (, one of the world’s premier intellectual property law firms, has been selected by The Burton Foundation as one of the best law firms of the decade in legal writing.

“It is truly an honor to have been recognized by the Burton Foundation and Library of Congress, for our legal writing excellence over the past decade,” said Fitzpatrick Managing Partner Colleen Tracy. “Great writing is an extension of great thinking, and receiving this recognition is a testament to the quality of work that Fitzpatrick prides itself on.”

The Burton Foundation, established in 1999, in association with The Library of Congress and its Law Library, is a unique not-for-profit national awards program dedicated principally to rewarding effective legal writing. The program honors lawyers based on their writing ability, and in particular, those, “who use plain, modern language and avoid archaic, stilted legalese.” The quality and number of submissions by law firms and law schools is extremely competitive. Award recipients are selected from nominations by deans of every law school in America, as well as from nominations by managing partners of the 1000 largest U.S. law firms.

Fitzpatrick has been listed among only twenty firms that have won the greatest number of Burton Awards over the past decade. At the 2010 Burton Awards event, Fitzpatrick will be honored in a tribute program which prominently mentions the “Decade Award Winners.” The event will be held at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC on June 14, 2010.
